Exegesis of the verse: “Our Lord, indeed You are gathering the people for a Day of which there is no doubt. Indeed, Allah does not break His promise.”

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Then Allah the Exalted said:
Our Lord, surely You will gather the people for a Day about which there is no doubt. Indeed, Allah does not fail in His promise." ربنا إنك جامع الناس ليوم لاريب فيه إن الله لا يخلف الميعاد
[Ali 'Imran 3:9]
This is what is said regarding it:
Our Lord, surely You will gather the peopleربنا إنك جامع الناس
[Ali 'Imran 3:9]
And we say regarding the grammar of
Our Lord ربنا
as we said regarding the grammar of what came before. And His saying:
surely You will gather the people for a Day about which there is no doubt إنك جامع الناس ليوم لاريب فيه
[Ali 'Imran 3:9]
Whoever has intercourse with a mushrik (one who associates partners with Allah) is like him جامع
is an active participle, and here it does not govern a case because it is attached to a noun; if it were not for the attachment, it would be said: Our Lord, indeed You are the Gatherer of the people. But with the attachment, it does not govern except the genitive case. And His saying:
for a Day about which there is no doubt ليوم لاريب فيه
[Ali 'Imran 3:9]
the meaning is: that He gathers them for this time, so the lam here is for specifying the time, just as He said:
Establish prayer at the decline of the sun أقم الصلاة لدلوك الشمس
meaning the time of its setting, or as He said:
If you divorce women, divorce them during their waiting periods إذا طلقتم الناس فطلقوهن لعدتهن
meaning the time of their waiting periods. So Allah the Exalted is gathering the people for this time
for a Day about which there is no doubt ليوم لا ريب فيه
[Ali 'Imran 3:9]
meaning without any doubt, but doubt (rayb) is more emphatic than uncertainty (shakk), even though their meanings are close, because doubt (rayb) includes an increase of anxiety and disturbance along with the uncertainty, whereas uncertainty (shakk) is devoid of that. For this reason, the word rayb, which indicates its lexical concept, points to a type of anxiety and disturbance resulting from uncertainty, because some uncertainties do not generate worry, grief, or disturbance, and a person does not care about them, while other uncertainties a person cares about and is disturbed by, like these great matters mentioned in the reports about the Last Day. So a person must be completely reassured. And His saying:
about which there is no doubt لا ريب فيه
[Al-Baqarah 2:2]
its grammar is: that la is a negator of the genus, and rayb is its name, and in it is a preposition and its object, which is connected to a deleted predicate.
Indeed, Allah does not fail in His promise." إن الله لا يخلف الميعاد
[Ali 'Imran 3:9]
The sentence is an affirmation of what came before regarding the fact that He the Exalted is gathering the people for a Day of which there is no doubt. In this verse, Allah speaks about these noble ones: that after they call upon Allah with what came before, they convey this report expressing their faith and certainty that they believe that Allah is gathering the people for a Day of which there is no doubt, and then they call upon Allah that He not let their hearts deviate and that He grant them mercy from Him, because they believe that there is a Day in which Allah will gather the people to reward them for their deeds. So Allah the Mighty and Majestic informs about these people that they acknowledge this Last Day and that Allah the Exalted will gather the people, the first of them and the last, as He the Exalted said:
(49) Say, [O Muhammad], "Indeed, the former and the later peoples (50) Are to be gathered together for the appointment of a known Day." قل إن الأولين والآخرين لمجموعون إلى ميقات يوم معلوم
[Al-Waqi'ah 56:49-50]
And He the Exalted said:
That is a Day for which the people will be collected, and that is a Day [which will be] witnessed. ذلك يوم مجموع له الناس وذلك يوم مشهود
[Hud 11:103]
How many are the people who preceded us, and how many are the people who will follow us, and Allah knows best. And despite this, all these people will...
