Then He, the Exalted, said, clarifying the state of the disbelievers on that Day: [Ali 'Imran 3:10] [Al-Baqarah 2:6] Meaning they disbelieved in what faith requires, so they disbelieved in Allah, or in the Last Day, or in the angels, or in the Book, or in the Prophets, or in the divine decree. If they disbelieve in any one of these six things, they are disbelievers. They are disbelievers because faith cannot be divided, as Allah the Exalted said: [An-Nisa 4:150-151] And Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Baqarah 2:85] So, in what do we say the disbelievers disbelieved? In what faith requires, which are the six pillars that the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) explained in response to Jibril when he asked about faith. He said, “What is it?” Musnad Ahmad 191Sahih (Darussalam) Yes, these are the pillars. If one disbelieves in any one of them, he is a disbeliever. The disbelievers have wealth and they have children, and perhaps Allah grants them more wealth and children than He gives to the believers. Do they benefit from this? Allah the Exalted says: [Ali 'Imran 3:10] It has two meanings: to prevent or to repel. So, these wealth and children do not prevent anything from these disbelievers, nor do they repel anything from them. If any of Allah’s punishment befalls them, these children or this wealth cannot save them. And if Allah decrees something for them, they cannot prevent it or repel it. So, it did not prevent, nor did it repel, nor did it save [Ali 'Imran 3:10] Males or females? It includes both, because when “child” is used in the general sense, it includes both male and female. What is the evidence that “child” includes both male and female? [An-Nisa 4:11] . Their wealth and their children will not avail them anything against Allah, neither in this world nor in the Hereafter. For this reason, you find one of them having a great deal of abundant wealth, but if the Angel of Death comes to him, it does not prevent him. This wealth does not prevent it. He has many children, attendants, and servants, and they do not avail him anything. I seek refuge in Allah – Let us look at the grammar first to understand the meaning: “Those” is the subject, and “they” is a second subject or a particle of separation. “Fuel” is the predicate, either for the second subject or for the first subject. If you make “they” a second subject, then “fuel” is the predicate for the second subject. If you make “they” a particle of separation, then “fuel” is for the first subject. And “fuel” as a verb, yes. And “fuel” with a fathah on the waw is that with which one kindles fire, like “purification” is that with which one purifies oneself, and “pre-dawn meal” is that with which one eats the pre-dawn meal, and “breaking the fast” is that with which one breaks the fast. This is unlike the verb forms: “to break the fast,” “to eat the pre-dawn meal,” “to purify,” and “to perform ablution,” which are the actions. So, there is a difference between “ablution” (the act) and “ablution” (the water), “purification” (the act) and “purification” (the water), and “pre-dawn meal” (the act) and “pre-dawn meal” (the food). “Pre-dawn meal” meaning the action of eating the pre-dawn meal is with a dammah on the sin. “Pre-dawn meal” is that with which one eats the pre-dawn meal. So, if a person brings dates at the end of the night, what do we call these dates? A pre-dawn meal. And when he eats them, we call it eating the pre-dawn meal. If he brings water with which to perform ablution, it is ablution water. And when he performs the act and washes his face and hands, wipes his head, and washes his feet, we call it ablution. And so on. And here it says: Meaning that with which the fire is kindled, like firewood. Firewood is the fuel of the fire. These disbelievers are the fuel of the fire. And it has another fuel, and what is it? Stones, as Allah the Exalted said: [At-Tahrim 66:6] So, these are the fuel of the fire. And if they – may Allah protect us – are its fuel, then it burns fiercely because of them or is kindled because of them, and at the same time it burns them – we ask Allah for safety. He said: And “the Fire” is one of the names of Hell, and it is the abode that Allah the Exalted prepared for those who lie about His messengers. Its heat is severe, and it has intense cold – may Allah protect us. As for its heat, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: – I seek refuge in Allah – What is its measure? Seventy. Seventy means that in addition to the fire of this world, it is more severe than it, so it is like it seventy times over.
