Meaning his followers. Pharaoh is a proper name for every ruler of Egypt who is a disbeliever; every ruler of Egypt who is a disbeliever is called Pharaoh, just as every ruler of the Romans is called Caesar, and every ruler of the Persians is called Kisra. So the people of Ibrahim were before them, the people of Lut were before them, the people of Nuh were before them, the people of Hud were before them, and the people of 'Ad were before them.
