The questioner : Now, he says, Allah the Exalted said:
(14) He has certainly succeeded who purifies himself (15) And mentions the name of his Lord and prays. قد أفلح من تزكى * وذكر اسم ربه فصلى
[Al-A'la 87:14-15]
What is meant by remembrance here? Is it the *tahlil* or something else? Please guide us. And may Allah grant you a great reward, O Muslims. Amen. May Allah prolong your life, O our scholars, and extend the lifespan of the Saudi government, which has not fallen short in anything regarding Islam and the Muslims in general. Amen?

The Shaykh : The saying of Allah the Exalted:
He has certainly succeeded who purifies himself قَدْ أَفْلَحَ مَنْ تَزَكَّى
[Al-A'la 87:14]
means the one who purifies himself from shirk (associating partners with Allah) and sins below it.
And mentions the name of his Lord and prays. وَذَكَرَ اسْمَ رَبِّهِ فَصَلَّى
[Al-A'la 87:15]
This includes all remembrance of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). The prayer is well known. Some scholars among the exegetes held that the remembrance of Allah referred to here is the Friday sermon and the Friday prayer. They said this because Allah the Exalted says:
O you who have believed, when [the adhan] is called for the prayer on the day of Jumu'ah [Friday], then proceed to the remembrance of Allah and leave trade
[Al-Jumu'ah 62:9]
.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : The correct view is that the verse is general for everyone who remembers the name of Allah the Exalted and then prays, whether in the Friday sermon or otherwise. Remembering the name of Allah the Exalted is done by saying "La ilaha illa Allah" (There is no god but Allah) and by saying "Subhan Allah" (Glory be to Allah) and "Alhamdulillah" (Praise be to Allah), and also by performing acts of worship, for acts of worship are in reality a remembrance of Allah (Mighty and Majestic).
