The questioner : He says that I went out early, after the pre-dawn meal, to the desert to look for our sheep, and I did not return until just before the midday prayer. I came back so thirsty that it forced me to immerse myself in a lot of water to relieve the intense heat in my heart and liver. My family, my three brothers, and my father shouted at me, saying that this invalidates your fast. Ahmad Muhammad Abd al-Rahman from Iraq sent a question like this. How accurate is that? May Allah guide you.
The Shaykh : That is not correct. It is permissible for a fasting person to immerse himself in water, to sleep near an air conditioner, to wet his clothes, and to sprinkle his body to deal with the heat and intense thirst. It is narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him)As-Sunan al-Kubra lil-Nasa'i 13:571. Ibn Umar (may Allah be pleased with him and his father) used to wet his clothes while fasting due to thirst. Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) had a pool in which he would immerse himself while fasting. All of this is a blessing from Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) that a person should do what alleviates the intensity and pain of worship so that he performs the worship while at ease and it is made easy for him. Allah the Exalted said in the context of the verses of fasting: [Al-Baqarah 2:185].
