Pharaoh
فِرْعَوْنAnd His saying: "the people" means the companions. The companions were called "a people" because they are the foundation of a person's standing; a person takes pride in and stands by his people.
And His saying:
Indeed, they have been a people defiantly disobedient."
إِنَّهُمْ كَانُوا قَوْمًا فَاسِقِينَIt means: We sent you with nine signs to these people because they were a corrupt people, meaning: those who deviated from obedience. We have passed through in our lesson on the oneness of Allah that open sinfulness is divided into two categories: major open sinfulness, which is deviating from obedience in general, and minor open sinfulness, which is deviating from absolute obedience. Thus... And Ahmad clarifies for us the difference between the two expressions?
The student: ....
The Shaykh : From absolute obedience, what is the difference between absolute obedience and obedience in general?
The student: Absolute obedience is deviating...
The Shaykh : It means: encompassing all instances of obedience.
The student: ....
The Shaykh : It means that he obeys him in every command.
The student: The intended meaning is that he obeys him in every command.
The Shaykh : Yes, and that is the reality. If one says, for example, "this man has obeyed Allah," meaning: absolute obedience, it means: in everything he was commanded.
The student: If he commits open sin...
The Shaykh : If he commits open sin, he has deviated from absolute obedience, because the difference between "a thing in general" and "the absolute thing" is: "a thing in general" means the existence of any part of it, while "the absolute thing" is the complete thing.
Therefore, does the open sinner, according to the people of the Sunnah and the community, possess absolute faith or faith in general? He possesses faith in general.
"Obedience in general" means: this man is an open sinner, meaning: he has deviated from obedience in general. This means: no obedience, not even the least, is true of him; he has never obeyed. This is a disbeliever.
And if it is said: this open sinner has deviated from absolute obedience, it means that he has obedience, but complete obedience is not with him.
Therefore, they also say in jurisprudence: this is absolute water, and this is water in general.
They said: What has been changed by pure things is not purifying, because it is not absolute water, but rather water in general.
So the difference between the two expressions is known among the jurists, the specialists in the principles of jurisprudence, and the theologians, that the difference is between "a thing in general" and "the absolute thing."
"The absolute thing" means perfection, and "a thing in general" means the original state.
