The questioner : It is said: We see some people rejoicing in the festival with excessive joy, wearing loose and luxurious garments, riding in a luxurious car, and walking in the street with their chin raised and their necks puffed up, while we see others who do not lift their heads in the festival, cling to humility, wear tattered clothes, and say, "The festival is not about wearing new clothes; rather, the festival is the acceptance of deeds." Meanwhile, we find a deep chasm between these two groups that suggests a contradiction in the Muslim community. What is the most appropriate solution? May Allah grant you success.

The Shaykh : The most appropriate solution is the middle path. A person should not be arrogant or boastful in his clothing, vehicle, or appearance, nor should he be shabby or humble. Rather, he should display joy and happiness, wear his best clothes, adorn himself for the festival, and make himself feel that he is in a day of joy and happiness. For this reason, play is permitted on the days of the festival that is not permitted on other days, so that the soul may have its share of joy in this blessed day.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : And the truth is always between two extreme positions.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : Excess and deficiency.

The questioner : Thank you, may Allah reward you.
