The questioner : He says in his letter: If some of the blood that comes out of the slaughtered animal at the time of slaughter falls on the clothes, and then one prays, is the person's prayer valid, and what is the ruling on this blood in terms of impurity?

The Shaykh : This blood is impure because it is flowing blood. And Allah the Exalted said in the Noble Qur'an:
Say, "I do not find within that which was revealed to me [anything] forbidden to one who would eat it unless it be a dead animal or blood spilled out or the flesh of swine - for indeed, it is impure قُلْ لا أَجِدُ فِي مَا أُوحِيَ إِلَيَّ مُحَرَّمًا عَلَى طَاعِمٍ يَطْعَمُهُ إِلَّا أَنْ يَكُونَ مَيْتَةً أَوْ دَمًا مَسْفُوحًا أَوْ لَحْمَ خِنزِيرٍ فَإِنَّهُ رِجْسٌ
[Al-An'am 6:145]
His saying:
for it is an abomination فإنه رجس
refers back to the previous exception, which is three things: carrion, flowing blood, and the flesh of the pig. Accordingly, the flowing blood that comes out of an animal before its soul departs is impure, and it is obligatory to purify the body and the garment from it. However, the scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) excepted a small amount from this, saying that it is excused due to the difficulty of guarding against it.
In any case, if a person prays in a garment stained with flowing blood in a manner that is not excused, and if he was aware of this blood and aware of the legal ruling that his prayer is not valid, then his prayer is invalid and he must repeat it. But if he was ignorant of this blood and did not know about it until after his prayer, or if he knew about it but did not know that it is impure and invalidates the prayer, then his prayer is also valid. This is because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) once led his companions in prayer, and during the prayer he took off his sandals, so the people took off their sandals. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) finished his prayer, he asked them: Why did you take off your sandals? They said: We saw you take off your sandals, so we took off ours. He said:
Gabriel came to me and informed me that there was filth on them إن جبريل أتاني فأخبرني أن فيهما أذىً أو قال: قذراً
Mishkat al-Masabih 766
So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) took them off and did not restart the prayer. This indicates that one who prays with impurity while ignorant of it does not have to repeat the prayer, and likewise one who is ignorant of its ruling.
Forgetfulness is like ignorance. If a person has impurity on his garment or body and prays before washing it, forgetting it, then his prayer is valid due to the generality of the saying of Allah the Exalted:
Our Lord, do not impose blame upon us if we have forgotten or erred. رَبَّنَا لا تُؤَاخِذْنَا إِنْ نَسِينَا أَوْ أَخْطَأْنَا
[Al-Baqarah 2:286]
Allah the Exalted said:
He has done so قد فعلت
But we advise our Muslim brothers that if impurity affects their clothes, their bodies, or their place of prayer, they should hasten to purify it, because this was the way of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When the Bedouin urinated in the mosque, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered a bucket of water to be poured over it.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : And when the boy urinated in his lap, he called for water and poured it over it. This is evidence that a person should purify his place of prayer, his clothes, and his body from any impurity that affects him immediately, so that these things do not remain impure, and because it is feared that he may forget and pray in them.

The questioner : Yes.

The Shaykh : In any case, what a person should do is hasten to purify his clothes, his body, and his place of prayer from impurity. Yes.
