The reader: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon His servant and messenger, our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.
As for what follows: The Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) said in *Iqtida' al-Sirat al-Mustaqim*
"And the position of Abu Yusuf is: the one with one father is like the one with two fathers, and the position of al-Shafi'i and Ahmad is: there is no consideration for that; Ahmad stated this explicitly. Al-Silafi narrated from the hadith of al-Hasan ibn Rashiq, who said: Ahmad ibn al-Hasan ibn Harun narrated to us, who said: al-Ala' ibn Salim narrated to us, who said: Qarah ibn 'Isa al-Wasiti narrated to us, who said: Abu Bakr al-Hudhali narrated to us from Malik ibn Anas, from al-Zuhri, from Abu Salama ibn 'Abd al-Rahman, who said: Qays ibn Hatat came to a circle in which were Suhayb al-Rumi, Salman al-Farisi, and Bilal al-Habashi. He said: These Aws and Khazraj have risen to support this man, so what is the matter with these? Then Mu'adh ibn Jabal stood up and grabbed him by the collar, then brought him to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and informed him of his statement. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) stood up angry, dragging his cloak, until he entered the mosque. Then it was announced that the prayer is gathered. He ascended the pulpit, praised Allah and extolled Him, then said:
As for what follows, O people, the Lord is one Lord, the father is one father, and the religion is one religion. And Arabic is not a father or a mother for any of you; it is merely a language. Whoever speaks Arabic is an Arab. Then Mu'adh ibn Jabal stood up and said: What do you command us to do with this hypocrite? He said: Leave him to the Fire.
Qays was among those who apostatized and was killed in the apostasy. This hadith is weak, and it appears to be fabricated upon Malik, but its meaning is not far off; rather, it is correct from some aspects, as we have mentioned previously. Whoever reflects on what we have mentioned in this chapter will know the objective of the Shari'ah in what we have mentioned regarding the conformity that is commanded and the deviation that is forbidden, as the evidence has indicated, and will know some of the aspects of that and its causes, and some of the wisdom therein"
