How do we respond to the people of tafwid?

The questioner : May Allah forgive you. A shaykh says that some people mean that the discussion regarding the attributes and names revolves between absolute affirmation and, well, denial. He says, "We, in order to be safe from denial and, well, negation, and to be safe from what brings us close to likening Allah to creation, and in order to be safe and not fall into what is warned against, he says, 'Let these verses, the verses of the attributes, pass as they are, and we will be safe in our Hereafter and not be asked about them.' So what do we say to this?"

The Shaykh : This is the doctrine of the people of tafwid.

The questioner : Yes, indeed.

The Shaykh : We say: Your statement is among the worst of the statements of the people of religious innovation, because Allah revealed the Qur'an with both the wording and the meaning, and He commanded us to reflect upon it. How can we reflect upon something whose meaning cannot be reached? Yes.
