The questioner : A teacher proposed to his principal that he be granted a five-day leave before the start of the school term, and there is no work, and the teacher decided to waive the salary for these days for the poor students and prizes for the top students and the like. Guide us in light of this question?
The Shaykh : It is not permissible for a person to request leave except where the regulations permit it. If the regulations permit this, then there is no harm, and in that case, the salary for these days becomes lawful for him. However, if the regulations do not permit it, then it is not permissible for his principal to agree to it. And even if the principal agrees, the salary corresponding to these days is not lawful for him, even if he spends it on the poor students or for the school's interests.
And on this occasion, I would like to advise my fellow employees to fear Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in themselves, in their government, and in their people. Taking what they do not deserve is injustice to themselves, because they are making it permissible for themselves to consume wealth by falsehood without right, and this is injustice to the self. So they should fear Allah. Let those who are negligent in performing the duties required of them by the regulations beware of what the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned, where he said: Indeed, Allah is Good and accepts only that which is good, and Allah commanded the believers with what He commanded the messengers, saying: O you who believe, eat from the good things We have provided for you and be grateful to Allah if it is Him you worship. And He said: O messengers, eat from the good things and do righteous deeds. Indeed, I am Knowing of what you do. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned the man who travels a long distance, disheveled and covered in dust, stretching his hands to the sky: O Lord, O Lord, while his food is forbidden, his clothing is forbidden, and he is nourished with what is forbidden. How will he be answered? Let them beware of being like these people. For this reason, the jurists (may Allah have mercy on them) mentioned among the etiquettes of supplication, indeed among the conditions of supplication: sincerity and avoiding the consumption of what is forbidden. So let the believer beware of being negligent in performing what he is obligated to perform of work, whether in the government or in the private sector. Yes.
The questioner : May Allah reward you.
