The questioner : He has a final question, asking: Is it true that every woman who gives birth has all her sins forgiven because of the pain and hardship she encounters during childbirth, as it serves as purification for her sins?

The Shaykh : This is not correct. However, a woman, like other human beings, if she is afflicted with something and she is patient and seeks reward from Allah, she will be rewarded for these pains and calamities. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) even gave as an example something less severe than that, such as being pricked by a thorn, stating that it expiates sins for her. Know that the calamities that befall a person, if he is patient and seeks reward from Allah, he will be rewarded for his patience and seeking of reward, and the calamity itself serves as expiation for his sins. Thus, calamities are expiatory in any case. If patience accompanies them, the person is rewarded for that patience. Therefore, a woman during childbirth undoubtedly suffers pain and harm, and this pain expiates her sins. If she is patient and seeks reward from Allah, there will be an increase in her reward and good deeds in addition to the expiation.

The questioner : May Allah reward you with the best reward.
