His second question asks: If a person prays ten minutes or less before the time of prayer, for example, knowing that he did not realize the time had entered, does his prayer become invalid, and does he have to repeat it after he becomes aware that he prayed outside the time, or not?

The questioner : His second question asks: If a person prays ten minutes or less before the time of prayer, for example, knowing that he did not realize the time had entered, does his prayer become invalid, and does he have to repeat it after he becomes aware that he prayed outside the time, or not?

The Shaykh : Yes, the prayer he performed before the time does not suffice for the obligatory prayer, because Allah the Exalted says:
Indeed, prayer has been decreed upon the believers a decree of specified times. إِنَّ الصَّلاةَ كَانَتْ عَلَى الْمُؤْمِنِينَ كِتَابًا مَوْقُوتًا
[An-Nisa 4:103]
and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) clarified these times in his saying:
The time of the noon prayer is when the sun passes the meridian وقت الظهر إذا زالت الشمس
Sahih Muslim 612d
to the end of the hadith. Accordingly, if a person prays before its time, his prayer does not suffice for the obligatory prayer, but it is considered a voluntary prayer, meaning he is rewarded for it as a voluntary prayer, and he must repeat the prayer after the time has entered.
