Explanation of the Book of the Beginning of Revelation, Faith, and Knowledge-05b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Qutaybah ibn Sa'id informed us, saying: Isma'il ibn Ja'far narrated to us from Humayd from Anas ibn Malik, who said: 'Ubadah ibn al-Samit informed me:
That the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) went out to inform [the people] about the Night of Decree, and two men among the Muslims quarreled, so he said: "I went out to inform you about the Night of Decree, but so-and-so and so-and-so quarreled, so it was taken away from you. Perhaps it is better for you. Seek it in the odd nights of the last ten days."
.

The Shaykh : The point of this hadith is that the sin did not reach the level where it would be lifted from them, meaning that the knowledge of the Night of Decree would be lifted from them. However, this is not absolute, but only for that year. Otherwise, the Night of Decree is not known and it moves; it can be on the twenty-seventh night in one year and on the twenty-fifth night in the next year, and so on. For this reason, he said at the end of the hadith,
may be it was better for you عسى أن يكون خيرا
Sahih al-Bukhari 6049
, meaning: I expect it to be better for you, and it is indeed so, because if people knew it was on a specific night, their worship and standing in prayer would be limited to what?
To that night. But if they do not know it, they strive in all the nights. This is one point.
Second: If it were a specific night, it would be easy for everyone, whether energetic or lazy, to stand in prayer on it. But if it is not known, only the one who is energetic in worship would strive for it. Moreover, all the worship we perform in these nights is good and a reward for us. For this reason, our Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said:
and may be it was better for you وعسى أن يكون خيرا لكم
Sahih al-Bukhari 6049
.
Then he said:
Seek it التمسوها
, and the command here is for guidance,
in the 7th, the 9th and the 5th في السبع والتسع والخمس
Sahih al-Bukhari 49
and what remains?
Three, and the twenty-first, yes.
