The Ruling on Celebrating the Twenty-Seven Night of Ramadan

The second question of Fatwa No. ( 167 ):
Q2: What is the ruling on celebrating the twenty-seventh night, the Night of Decree?
A2: The best of guidance is the guidance of Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and the worst of matters are those that are newly invented. So the guidance of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in Ramadan was to increase in acts of worship, such as prayer, reciting the Qur'an, giving charity, and other forms of righteousness. In the first twenty nights, he would sleep and pray, but when the last ten nights entered, he would wake his family, tighten his waist sash, and spend the night in worship. He encouraged standing in prayer in Ramadan and standing in prayer on the Night of Decree. He said (peace and blessings be upon him):Sahih al-Bukhari 37Sunan Abi Dawud 1372Sahih (Al-Albani) Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. He (peace and blessings be upon him) also indicated that the Night of Decree is in the last ten nights of Ramadan, and that it is in one of its odd-numbered nights. He said (peace and blessings be upon him): Sunan Ibn Majah 1766Sahih (Darussalam) Narrated by Ahmad in the Musnad, and it was also reported by al-Tirmidhi , and it includes: , and al-Tirmidhi said after reporting it: This is a good, authentic hadith. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) taught 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her)
the supplication to recite if she were to encounter this night. Ahmad narrated in the Musnad from her (may Allah be pleased with her) that she said:, and it was also reported by al-Nasa'i , Ibn Majah , and al-Tirmidhi , and al-Tirmidhi said after reporting it: This is a good, authentic hadith. This is the guidance of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) in Ramadan and on the Night of Decree. As for celebrating the twenty-seventh night as the Night of Decree, it contradicts the guidance of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), for he (peace and blessings be upon him) did not celebrate the Night of Decree. Therefore, celebrating it is a religious innovation. And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

Whoever establishes prayers during the nights of Ramadan faithfully out of sincere faith and hoping to attain Allah's rewards (not for showing off), all his past sins will be forgiven.

O Messenger of Allah, if I were to encounter the Night of Decree, what should I say in it? He said: You should say: O Allah, You are the Pardoner and You love pardon, so pardon me.
يا نبي الله إن وافقت ليلة القدر ما أقول فيها؟ قال: تقولين: اللهم إنك عفو تحب العفو فاعف عني
