The Shaykh : What is meant is that Allah looks at him with a look by which He shows him mercy; it is not the mercy itself. For this reason, there is a difference now between looking at your child who pleased you and looking at your child who angered you. When you look at the child who pleased you, you look at him with a cool gaze, and he feels that your eye has been satisfied with him. "Qara" (satisfaction) comes from "qurr" (coolness), not from "qarar" (settling); "qurr" means coolness. For this reason, Allah says, "He satisfied your eye," meaning He cooled it. What does cooling it mean? It means He settled it so that it does not move. Now, when you look at the child you are angry with, how is your eye? It is hot and red, with sparks flying from it, almost blinding the child. Now...
