The benefits of the saying of Allah the Exalted: ((And We assigned to them companions who adorned for them what was before them and what was behind them, and the word became binding upon them in the nations that had passed before them of the jinn...

We take the benefits as is customary. Allah the Exalted said:
And We appointed for them companions وقيضنا لهم قرناء
[Fussilat 41:25]
to the end of it. Among the benefits of this verse is the clarification of the greatness of Allah (Mighty and Majestic) in His saying:
And We assignedوقيضنا
, because
Narrated to usنا
indicates greatness.
And among the benefits of the noble verse is the refutation of the Mu'tazilah, who say that man is independent in his deeds and that Allah the Exalted has no connection with them. Did you understand? People in this matter are divided into three groups. The first group is those who say that man is compelled in his deeds and has no will or choice, and that his voluntary action is like his involuntary action; the one who goes and comes by his own choice is like the one who trembles or walks like a madman on the earth. This is the doctrine of whom? The doctrine of the Jabriyyah, whose leader is Jahm ibn Safwan, who studied under al-Ja'd ibn Dirham. The second group is those who say that the servant is independent in his deeds and that Allah has no connection with them; man is a willing chooser and no one has authority over him. This is the doctrine of whom? The Qadariyyah, who are the Mu'tazilah. The Qadariyyah are called the Majus (Zoroastrians) of this Ummah (Muslim community) because they claimed that there are two creators of events: the events that are from the action of Allah are from His action, and the events that are from the action of the servant are from his action independently. These are the Mu'tazilah and those who appear to be like them, and their leaders are 'Amr ibn 'Ubayd and Wasil ibn 'Ata'. The third opinion is that of those who say that the servant has a will and choice, but his will and choice are subordinate to the will and decree of Allah the Exalted. These are the righteous Salaf, the people of the Sunnah and the community. They said that the servant is the one who stands, fasts, bows, prostrates, goes, and comes; it is the servant, not Allah. And they said that these actions are attributed to him. How much is there in the Qur'an of
as reward for what they used to do. جزاءً بما كانوا يعملون
[As-Sajdah 32:17]
about what they used to do. جزاءً بما كانوا يفعلون
[Al-An'am 6:159]
and the like of that.
