He said, may Allah have mercy on him: “ meaning he is given the quality that is best [Fussilat 41:35] reward ” Yes. The author said, may Allah have mercy on him: “meaning he is given the quality” It was also said: its meaning is he is not enabled to do it, and the meanings are close. That is, no one attains this quality, which is defending with that which is best, except those who are patient. This sentence contains a restriction, and its method is what? Negation and affirmation: [Fussilat 41:35], and his saying: [Hud 11:11] means they restrained their souls and compelled them to bear this matter, and that is because this matter is severe, for souls love to take revenge from whoever wrongs them, but it is said: defend with that which is best. For this reason he said: [Fussilat 41:35] Every person will suffer severe hardship if he follows this path, which is: defending with that which is best. He must find fatigue and difficulty. So Allah the Exalted praised those who are patient in that. Patience does not require us to lengthen the explanation of it, for they said: it is of three types: it is patience in obedience to Allah, patience from His disobedience, and patience with His decrees. Yes, [Fussilat 41:35] He said: “reward” meaning reward. And the correct thing to say is: fortune is the share, meaning: none will be granted it except one of a great share, not from reward alone, but from reward, character, composure, and other things. That is, who has a great share of what? Of reward, character, composure, deliberation, and other things. So it should not be limited to reward.
