regarding whether retaliation applies to blows that do not leave a mark, such as when a strong person strikes a weak one, and whether the weak person may bring a strong person to strike him and take retaliation from him.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The student: ...The oppression of the oppressor varies according to the people. For example, if a person takes money from a rich man, it does not affect him. And if a strong person strikes a weak one, the blow does not affect the strong one. So, should we bring a person of similar strong build to strike him?

The Shaykh : No, that is not a condition. If he strikes with the same blow that was struck on him, that is sufficient.
The student: It does not affect him.

The Shaykh : First, may Allah reward you. Know that the majority of scholars say that there is no retaliation for a blow, unless it results in death. And we know that a blow like this usually kills, so retaliation is taken from him. But let us say, setting aside this issue, the first example you mentioned: a poor man from whom a rich man took ten riyals, making him poor and destitute. The one who took the ten riyals has millions. If ten riyals are taken from him, it does not harm him at all. So we say that justice is to give this person only what was taken from him.
