Friday prayer is not obligatory on the woman

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: Some matters have come up that I would like to inquire about, if you would be so kind, so that there is no anticipated issue regarding Friday prayer and the woman if she prays it in her home?

A: Friday prayer is not obligatory on the woman; rather, it is obligatory on the men. Likewise, the congregation is not obligatory on the woman; rather, it is obligatory on the men. The recommended practice is for the woman to pray in her home on Friday and on other days; praying in her home is better for her. However, if she prays with the people, the Friday prayer suffices for her in place of the midday prayer, provided she is covered, modest, and wearing the hijab. She should go out without perfume, and there is no harm in her doing so in order to hear the benefit, the sermon, and the admonitions. However, she must be careful to maintain the hijab and covering, and to stay away from fitnah (trial, discord or temptation). On her way, she should not be perfumed or displaying her adornment, but rather be wearing the hijab and covered, and pray with the people. This is as some women in the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). But he said:
And let them go out disheveledوليخرجن تفلات
meaning without a pleasant scent, so that the men would not be tempted by them, and let them not be displaying their adornment when going out. He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
And their homes are better for themوبيوتهن خير لهن
But if she prays with the congregation while maintaining covering, hijab, care, and staying away from the causes of evil and fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) and from pleasant scents, there is no harm in that.
From this, we understand that the woman does not have to perform Friday prayer; rather, she prays the midday prayer in her home. However, if she prays it with the people as Friday prayer, it suffices for her and covers the midday prayer. This is like the sick person, who does not have to perform Friday prayer; he only prays the midday prayer. Yet if he prays with the people, the Friday prayer suffices for him in place of the midday prayer. And like the slave, who does not have to perform Friday prayer; he only has the midday prayer. If he prays Friday with the people, it suffices for him. Likewise, the traveler does not have to perform Friday prayer, but if he prays Friday with the people, it suffices for him in place of the midday prayer.
And success is from Allah.
