Ruling on combining the 'Asr prayer with the Friday prayer
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: The questioner, A. M. J. from Riyadh, says in his question: I prayed the Friday prayer in the Noble Prophet's Mosque. Since I was traveling, I intended to combine the 'Asr prayer with it, shortening it. Before I began the takbir for the 'Asr prayer, the mu'adhdhin announced the funeral prayer, so I prayed it with the congregation. After that, I prayed the 'Asr prayer shortened. Is my action correct? If it is not correct, what was I required to do? I mean my performance of the 'Asr prayer combined and shortened with the Friday prayer, followed by the separation of the two by the funeral prayer. Please issue a ruling for us, may Allah reward you with good and prolong your life in His obedience?
A: The 'Asr prayer is not combined with the Friday prayer, neither in travel nor in residence, according to the most correct of the scholars' opinions. You must repeat your prayer because you prayed it before its time in a manner in which combining is not permissible.
As for separating the two combined prayers with the funeral prayer, there is no blame on you for that; because it is prescribed to hasten with it to the burial; due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Sunan Ibn Majah 1477Sahih (Darussalam) It is agreed upon as authentic; and because separating the two prayers with the funeral prayer is considered a slight separation that does not prevent combining according to those who stipulate that. And success is from Allah.

Hasten with the funeral (procession), for if the person was righteous then you are advancing him towards good, and if he was otherwise then it is evil which you are taking off of your necks.
