The Form of Supplication for the Deceased in the Funeral Prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: The brother A.M.H. from Riyadh says in his question: I prayed in one of the mosques, and after the prayer, the deceased were brought for the funeral prayer. They were a man, a woman, a boy, and a girl. What is the appropriate legal formula for supplicating for them? Sometimes the imam says, "Pray for the deceased," and one does not know whether they are male or female, or if there are children with them or not. What is the appropriate supplication, O Shaykh, in such a case?

A: One supplicates for all the deceased, whether they are male or female, or both male and female, by saying: "O Allah, forgive them and have mercy on them..." and so on. If they are two, one says: "O Allah, forgive them both and have mercy on them both..." and so on, until the end of the supplication.
As for the child, one says in the supplication for him: "O Allah, make him a store of good for his parents, a forerunner and an intercessor whose intercession is accepted. O Allah, increase their rewards because of him, and make his weight heavy in their scales. Join him with the righteous predecessors of the believers, and place him under the care of Ibrahim (peace be upon him). Protect him, by Your mercy, from the punishment of the blazing Fire."
If the follower does not know the number of the deceased, he supplicates for them. If he does not know their number, he says: "O Allah, forgive them and have mercy on them..." and so on. And success is from Allah.
