Question:
What is the supplication that is recited in the prayer when we pray over the deceased?
Answer:
First: when making the supplication, he says—after the third takbir:Sunan Ibn Majah 1498Hasan (Darussalam) This is general for every funeral. Then, after this, he says: if it is a man, or “O Allah, forgive her” if it is a woman, or “O Allah, forgive them” if they are a group. O Allah, forgive them, have mercy on them, grant them well-being, pardon them, honor their dwelling, widen their entrance, wash them with water, snow, and hail, and purify them from sins as a white garment is purified from dirt. O Allah, replace their dwelling with one better than their dwelling, and their family with one better than their family. O Allah, admit them into Paradise, and protect them from the punishment of the grave and the punishment of the Fire. Make spacious for them in their graves and light for them therein; if they are a group, and if it is one person:
O Allah, forgive him... to the end of it.
Sunan Ibn Majah 1498Hasan (Darussalam).
O Allah, forgive him, and firm him with the firm word. All of this is good supplication.
