Q: The questioner says: It is narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
Women have no share in the funeralليس للنساء نصيب في الجنازة
What is your opinion of this hadith, and what are the matters a woman should avoid regarding the funeral?

A: This hadith mentioned by the questioner, “Women have no share in the funeral,” we do not know of any basis for it, nor do we know of any scholar who has cited it. What is reported from him (peace and blessings be upon him) in this matter is that he (peace and blessings be upon him):
Allah's Messenger cursed the women who visit the graves, and those who use them as Masajid and put torches on them.لعن زائرات القبور والمتخذين عليها المساجد والسرج
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 320Da'if (Darussalam)
, and he prohibited women from following the funeral—meaning to the cemetery. As for praying over the deceased with the people in the mosque or the prayer area, it is prescribed for everyone. The women used to pray the obligatory prayer and over the funerals with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) prayed over the funeral of Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (may Allah have mercy on him) in the Prophet’s (peace and blessings be upon him) mosque. Therefore, the conclusion is that a woman prays over the funerals with the men, and there is no harm in that. However, going with the funeral to the cemetery or visiting graves is what is prohibited, so it is not permissible for her to do that. And success is from Allah.
