Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
It was narrated from the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
Women have no share in the funeralليس للنساء نصيب في الجنازة
What is your opinion of this hadith, and what are the matters that a woman should avoid regarding the funeral?

Answer:
This hadith that the questioner mentioned,
Women have no share in the funeralليس للمرأة نصيب في الجنازة
we do not know of any basis for it, nor do we know of any scholar who has cited it. What is reported from him (peace and blessings be upon him) in this matter is that he (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed those who visit graves and those who make mosques and lamps upon them, and he forbade women from following the funeral—meaning to the cemetery. As for praying over the deceased with the people in the mosque or the prayer area, it is prescribed for everyone. The women used to pray the obligatory prayer with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) and over the funerals.
And Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) prayed over the funeral of Sa'd ibn Abi Waqqas (may Allah have mercy on him) in the mosque of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).
So the conclusion is that a woman prays over the funerals with the men, and there is no harm in that. As for her going with the funeral to the cemetery or visiting graves, that is what is forbidden, so it is not permissible for her to do that.
