The Ruling on Zakah in Stored Grains for a Person’s Need

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: I took a quantity of grains from some farmers and stored them as food for my children, both for the present and the future, if Allah wills. Is there any zakah due on them?

A: There is no zakah due on these grains or similar wealth stored for a person’s need. Zakah is only due on what is prepared for trade, or on the two currencies of gold and silver, or on paper currency that serves as their equivalent. This is a favor from Allah, a kindness and a mercy toward His servants, so praise and gratitude are due to Him for it.
