Your letter has reached us, along with the information contained in it regarding your presence in Jordan as part of the Saudi forces stationed there, and that you have some money available, and you wish to pay its zakah, as you mentioned, this was known.
A: Zakah is due on money and other commercial goods that have been in a person's possession for a lunar year. The obligatory amount on money is one-quarter of a tenth of what reaches the nisab. One nisab is equivalent to fifty-six Saudi riyals in the current Saudi silver currency. You must pay the zakah on the money you have that has been in your possession for a lunar year, at the rate mentioned, whether it is in Saudi currency or its equivalent in Jordanian currency, or any other currency. May Allah guide them all, and peace be upon you, and Allah's mercy and blessings.
