The ruling on the fasting of a woman with post-natal bleeding if she becomes pure and then the blood returns
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: If a woman with post-natal bleeding becomes pure within a week, then fasts with the Muslims for a few days in Ramadan, and then the blood returns to her, does she break her fast in this case? And is she required to make up the days she fasted and the days she broke her fast?
Answer: If a woman with post-natal bleeding becomes pure within the forty days, then fasts for some days, and then the blood returns to her within the forty days, then her fasting is valid, and she must leave off the prayer and fasting on the days on which the blood returned; because it is post-natal bleeding until she becomes pure or completes forty days. And when she completes the forty days, it is obligatory for her to take a full ritual bath even if she does not see purity; because the forty days are the end of post-natal bleeding in the most correct of the two opinions of the scholars. And after that, she must perform the ablution for the time of every prayer until the blood stops from her, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) commanded the woman with irregular non-menstrual bleeding to do. And her husband may enjoy her after the forty days even if she does not see purity; because the blood, in the state described, is blood of corruption that does not prevent prayer or fasting, and does not prevent the husband from enjoying his wife. But if the blood after the forty days coincides with her custom for menstruation, then she leaves off the prayer and fasting and considers it menstruation. And success is from Allah.
