Q461: The questioner says: If the blood stops for a woman while she is in the period of post-natal bleeding, is it permissible for her to pray and fast?
A461: A woman during the forty days after childbirth is in the state of post-natal bleeding. If the blood stops for her during the forty days, she should perform the full ritual bath, fast, and pray, and her fasting and prayer are valid. If the blood returns to her before the forty days, she should abstain from prayer and fasting. However, if the blood stops at the completion of the forty days and she then performs the full ritual bath, she should pray and fast. If she sees any yellowish or brownish discharge after that, it does not harm her. Umm Atiyyah (may Allah be pleased with her) said:Sunan an-Nasa'i 368Sahih (Darussalam) .
