There is no zakah on wealth acquired from riba

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: The questioner / A. M. M. from Unaizah says in his question: My bank account balance in the month of Ramadan in the year 1415 AH was fifty thousand riyals, and I paid its zakah at that time. In Ramadan of 1416 AH, my account balance became ninety thousand riyals. Should I pay zakah on the full ninety thousand riyals, or on the difference between the two balances, meaning forty thousand riyals, since I had already paid zakah on the fifty thousand riyals? And what is the ruling regarding the fact that the balance in Ramadan of 1416 AH is less than the previous year? Please give us a ruling, may Allah reward you with good.

A: You must pay zakah on the ninety thousand riyals, because the profit is attached to the principal, and its ruling in the lunar year is the same as the ruling of the principal, provided that the aforementioned profit was obtained through lawful means.
However, if it was obtained through riba, then you only owe zakah on the principal, which is fifty thousand riyals. As for the profit obtained through riba, it is forbidden, and it is not your property. Rather, it is obligatory to spend it on the poor and the needy and to get rid of it, along with repenting to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) for that. We ask Allah for guidance and steadfastness upon the truth for us and for you, and may Allah guide everyone.
