Sins are multiplied in noble time and place in quality, not in quantity

Question: Does fasting result in the expiation of sins for the Muslim, both small and large? And is the sin of sins multiplied in Ramadan?

Answer: It is prescribed for the Muslim in Ramadan and in other times to strive against his soul that commands evil until it becomes a soul at peace, commanding good and desiring it. It is obligatory for him to strive against the enemy of Allah, Iblis, until he is safe from his evil and his whispers. Thus, the Muslim in this world is in a great, continuous struggle against the soul, desires, and Satan. He must increase in repentance and seeking forgiveness at all times and moments. However, times differ from one another. The month of Ramadan is the best of the months of the year; it is a month of forgiveness, mercy, and release from the Fire. If the month is noble and the place is noble, good deeds are multiplied in it, and the sin of evil deeds is magnified in it. So an evil deed in Ramadan is a greater sin than an evil deed in other times, just as an act of obedience in Ramadan has a greater reward with Allah than an act of obedience in other times.
Since Ramadan holds that great status, obedience in it has a great virtue and much multiplication, and the sin of sins in it is more severe and greater than their sin in other times. So the Muslim must seize this blessed month with acts of obedience, righteous deeds, and abandoning evil deeds, so that Allah may grant him acceptance and guide him to steadfastness upon the truth. However, an evil deed is always repaid with its like; it is not multiplied in number, neither in Ramadan nor in other times. As for the good deed, it is multiplied ten times up to many times; for the saying of Allah in Surat al-An'am:
Whoever comes [on the Day of Judgement] with a good deed will have ten times the like thereof [to his credit], and whoever comes with an evil deed will not be recompensed except the like thereof; and they will not be wronged.
[Al-An'am:160] And there are many verses in this meaning.
Likewise, in a noble place, such as the two sacred sanctuaries, good deeds are multiplied many times in quantity and quality. As for evil deeds, they are not multiplied in quantity, but they are multiplied in quality in noble time and noble place, as previously indicated. And success is from Allah.
