Explanation of the author's statement: "Praise be to Allah, who sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth to make it prevail over all religion, and sufficient is Allah as a witness"

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh :"In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Praise be to Allah, who sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth": Allah the Exalted is praised for His perfection (Mighty and Majestic) and for His bestowal of blessings upon His perfection and His bestowal of blessings. So we praise Allah (Mighty and Majestic) because He is perfect in attributes in every respect, and we praise Him also because He is perfect in bestowal and kindness.
And whatever you have of favor - it is from Allah. Then when adversity touches you, to Him you cry for help.
[An-Nahl 16:53]
And the greatest blessing Allah bestowed upon creation is the sending of the Messengers, through whom creation is guided. For this reason, the author says: "Praise be to Allah, who sent His Messenger with guidance and the religion of truth". The intended meaning of "Messenger" here is the generic sense, for all Messengers were sent with guidance and the religion of truth. However, the one sent with the religion of truth that is complete in every respect is Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), for Allah closed the prophets with him and completed the structure, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) described himself in relation to the Messengers: like a man who built a palace and completed it except for the place of one brick, so people would come to this palace and marvel at it, except for the place of this brick. He said:
So I am that brick, and I am the last of the Prophets.
Sahih al-Bukhari 3535
(peace and blessings be upon him).
And his saying: "with guidance": the preposition "ba" here indicates accompaniment, and "guidance" is beneficial knowledge. And "and the religion of truth" is righteous action, for religion is action or the recompense for action. And every action other than Islam is invalid, and Islam is the religion of truth.
He said: "to make it prevail over all religion": the "lam" indicates purpose, and the meaning of "to make it prevail" is: to elevate it, for "prevailing" — O Bukhari — "prevailing" means elevation. From this comes "the back of the animal" meaning its upper part, and from this comes "the back of the earth" meaning its surface, as Allah the Exalted said:
And if Allah were to impose blame on the people for what they have earned, He would not leave upon the earth any creature
[Fatir 35:45]
To make it prevail: that is, to elevate it over all religion. Is the "ha" in "to make it prevail" referring to the Messenger or to the religion? That is, to the religion of truth or to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him)?
If it refers to "the religion of truth", then everyone who fights for the religion of truth will be the one who prevails. Everyone who fights for this religion will be the one who prevails, for Allah says:
to make it prevailليظهره
He will make this religion prevail over all religion. Well, and over that which has no religion, for there are people who have no religion. Will it prevail over them or not? A fortiori, for one who has no religion is more wicked than one who follows a false religion. So all religions, and those whose people claim to be upon the truth, the religion of Islam will prevail over them. Well.
And if we say that it refers to the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), then Allah makes His Messenger prevail because he is with the religion of truth.
And in either case, whoever holds fast to this religion of truth is the one who prevails and is elevated. And whoever seeks might with other than it has sought humiliation, is that not so? For there is no prevailing, no might, and no honor except through the religion. For this reason, I call you, O brothers, to hold fast to the religion of Allah, outwardly and inwardly, in worship, conduct, and morals, and in calling to it, until the religion is established and the community is upright.
He said: "to make it prevail over all religion, and sufficient is Allah as a witness". "Sufficient is Allah": the grammarians say that the "ba" here is superfluous to improve the phrasing and to emphasize sufficiency. "Sufficient is Allah," and its original form is "Sufficient is Allah." And "as a witness": it is a specification converted from the subject, for its original form is "Sufficient is the testimony of Allah."
The meaning of this is that the author brought the verse. That is, if someone were to say: What is the connection between "sufficient is Allah as a witness" and his saying: "to make it prevail over all religion"?
The connection is apparent, for this Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) came calling people and saying:
Whoever obeys me will enter Paradise, and whoever disobeys me is the one who refuses (to enter it).
Sahih al-Bukhari 7280
And saying:
Whoever obeys me I will keep safe, and whoever disobeys me I will fight
And he fights people with this religion, and he makes lawful their blood, their wealth, their women, and their offspring, and in that he is victorious, supported, dominant, and not defeated. So this establishment for him in the earth is Allah's establishment of His Messenger in the earth. Is this testimony from Allah practical or verbal? It is a practical testimony that he is truthful and that his religion is truth, for everyone who fabricates a lie against Allah ends up in abandonment, disappearance, and non-existence. And look at those who claimed prophethood: what was their end? They were forgotten and destroyed. Musaylimah the Liar, al-Aswad al-'Ansi, and others who claimed prophethood, they all vanished and the falsity of their claim became apparent, and they were deprived of the truth and correctness. But this Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), on the contrary, his call is still remaining, and praise be to Allah, and we ask Allah to keep us and you firm upon it. His call is still remaining until the Hour occurs, firm and established. Yes, the blood of those who oppose it from among the disbelievers, and their wealth, their women, and their offspring, are made lawful by his call to this day. Is this testimony practical or not? Practical. Allah did not take it back, nor did He expose him, nor did He refute him. For this reason, it came after his saying:
to manifest it over all religion. And sufficient is Allah as Witness.
[Al-Fath 48:28]
