The Meaning of the Poet's Statement Regarding the Qur'an: "Allah Spoke It in Truth, and Jibril Heard It from Him in Truth"

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The author (may Allah have mercy on him) says: "Allah Spoke It in Truth, and Jibril Heard It from Him in Truth" "or Jibrail Heard It from Him in Truth". The author has informed us that Jibril did not receive it from the Preserved Tablet, but rather heard it from Allah. The statement that Allah spoke it and then sent it down to the House of Glory in the lowest heaven is something that gives one pause, even though it is narrated from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him). What appears to be the case is that Allah speaks the Qur'an at the time of its revelation. His saying, the Exalted:
(21) But this is an honored Qur'an (22) [Inscribed] in a Preserved Slate. بَلْ هُوَ قُرْآنٌ مَجِيدٌ * فِي لَوْحٍ مَحْفُوظٍ
[Al-Buruj 85:21-22]
, may mean that its mention is in the Preserved Tablet, as He, the Exalted, said:
And indeed, it is [mentioned] in the scriptures of former peoples. وإنه لفي زبر الأولين
[Ash-Shu'ara 26:196]
. It is known that the Qur'an is not itself in the scriptures of the former ones; rather, what is in the scriptures of the former ones is its mention. It is possible that what is in the Preserved Tablet is that the Qur'an will be and will be revealed to Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), and the like of that. Thus, the intended meaning of it being in the Preserved Tablet is its mention. However, this view is weakened by His saying, the Exalted:
(77) Indeed, it is a noble Qur'an (78) In a Register well-protected; (79) None touch it except the purified. إنه لقرآن كريم في كتاب مكنون لا يمسه إلا المطهرون
[Al-Waqi'ah 56:77-79]
, for its apparent meaning is that the Qur'an itself was written in the Preserved Tablet itself. Yes, and Allah is Able to do all things; He may write it in the Preserved Tablet, but He does not speak it except at the time of its revelation. Yes, very well.
