Question: Brother A. M. M. from Tanta in Egypt says in his question: It is not hidden from your eminence that the dates of the beginning of the ordinary months are not known to people, so what is the situation regarding fasting the white days of each month? I mean, how does a person know these days so that he can fast them? We ask for your guidance, may Allah reward you with good.
Answer: It is prescribed for him to fast them according to the calendar, acting on the most likely opinion, and if he fasts them on days other than the white days, that suffices; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) encouraged fasting them from every month and did not restrict them to the white days, as in the two Sahihs from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said to Abdullah ibn Amr ibn al-As (may Allah be pleased with them both):Sahih al-Bukhari 1976, and in the two Sahihs from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: Mishkat al-Masabih 1262.
And the hadiths in this chapter are many. He has the choice, if he wishes, to combine them, and if he wishes, to separate them; due to the generality of the hadiths and their not being restricted to consecutive days. And success is from Allah.

Fast three days a month as the reward of good deeds is multiplied ten times and that will be equal to one year of fasting.
صم من الشهر ثلاثة أيام، فإن الحسنة بعشر أمثالها، وذلك مثل صيام الدهرMy friend* instructed me to observe three practices: to fast three days every month, to pray two rak'as in the forenoon, and to observe a witr before going to sleep.
أوصاني رسول الله ﷺ بثلاث: صيام ثلاثة أيام من كل شهر وركعتي الضحى وأن أوتر قبل النومAnd the hadiths in this chapter are many.
