What is permissible for a man regarding his wife after the marriage contract

Question: What is permissible for a man regarding his wife after the marriage contract and before consummation and cohabitation?

Answer: He is permitted with her what is permitted for men with their wives, but he should be patient until consummation becomes possible. If he needs to visit her and have contact with her with the permission of her family for a clear reason, there is no blame on him. If he meets her and is alone with her with the permission of her family, there is no blame on him. However, if it is done secretly and unknown, there is danger in that, for she may become pregnant from him, and then he may suspect her of wrongdoing, or they may deny his contact with her, which would lead to fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) and great evil. It is obligatory for him to refrain and be patient until consummation and cohabitation become possible. If the need arises for him to have contact with her and meet her, let that be in the presence of her father, mother, or brother, so that nothing occurs that is feared to have a dire consequence. May Allah guide them all.
