Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: Is it permissible for a man to take a sum of money from a bank with interest in order to perform a surgical operation for his wife, when he has tried to borrow from some people and they did not lend to him?
Answer: It is not permissible for him to borrow from the bank or anyone else by way of riba (usury or interest); because of the saying of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) : [al-Baqarah:275], and His saying (Mighty and Majestic): [al-Baqarah:276], and His saying (Glorified and Exalted is He) : [Al-Baqarah 2:278] So if you do not do it, then give notice of war from Allah and His Messenger [al-Baqarah:278-279], and it is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Sahih Muslim 1598. It was narrated by Imam Muslim in his Sahih. And success is from Allah.
Answer: It is not permissible for him to borrow from the bank or anyone else by way of riba (usury or interest); because of the saying of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) :
But Allah has permitted trade and has forbidden interest
وَأَحَلَّ اللّهُ الْبَيْعَ وَحَرَّمَ الرِّبَاAllah destroys riba (usury or interest) and multiplies alms
يَمْحَقُ اللّهُ الْرِّبَا وَيُرْبِي الصَّدَقَاتِO you who have believed, fear Allah and give up what remains [due to you] of interest, if you should be believers.
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُواْ اتَّقُواْ اللّهَ وَذَرُواْ مَا بَقِيَ مِنَ الرِّبَا إِن كُنتُم مُّؤْمِنِينَ that Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) cursed the accepter of interest and its payer, and one who records it, and the two witnesses, and he said: They are all equal.
أنه لعن آكل الربا، وموكله، وكاتبه، وشاهديه، وقال: هم سواء
