The daughter has the right to her mahr

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: When a man proposes to my daughter for marriage and offers a mahr of, for example, fifty thousand riyals, I return it to him and settle for two or three thousand, as some people do. Do I have the right to return it, even though it is the daughter's right? And if I help her with some of her dowry equipment, is that considered like helping her brothers? I ask your Eminence to guide us and issue a ruling on such matters, as the circumstances have necessitated it. Peace be upon you.

Answer: You do not have the right to return any part of her mahr without her permission, if she is of sound mind; because the right belongs to her in that matter. It is permissible for you to help her with the affairs of marriage if the need calls for it, just as you helped her brothers.
And Allah is the One who grants success.
