Oath to marry off a daughter without a mahr if he is given a daughter
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 16086 )
Q: He vowed that if Allah granted him a daughter, he would marry her off without a mahr. Now Allah has granted him a daughter who has reached the age of marriage, and she has been proposed to. What is obligatory for him? He knows that the mahr is the right of the daughter, not his right.
A: If the matter is as you described, you must pay the expiation for an oath. This is: feeding ten poor people, with each poor person receiving one and a half kilograms of the food eaten in the country, or clothing them, with each poor person receiving a shirt, a lower garment, and a cloak, or freeing a believing slave. If you do not find any of these mentioned things, then you must fast for three days. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
