The ruling on one who forbids his wife to himself and swears that she will not be his wife

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: To the honorable, His Eminence Shaykh/ Abdul Aziz ibn Baz, the respected
Peace be upon you, and Allah’s mercy and blessings, and after that:
I inform you that I am a poor man, and I have nothing but the salary I receive from my job, where I work as a soldier in the border forces. It happened that I forbade my wife with the prohibition of my mother, and then I swore that she would not be a wife to me. I have repented for what happened from me, as she is pregnant.
I ask you to issue a ruling on my matter, if you see a way for me to return to my wife. I also ask Allah, then your Eminence, that the response be in writing. May Allah reward you with good.

Answer: And upon you be peace and the mercy of Allah and His blessings:
If the reality is as you mentioned above, then it is obligatory for you to repent to Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He; because forbidding the wife is a matter that is not permissible, and Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, has named it an evil saying and a lie. And upon you for that is the expiation for zihar, which is freeing a slave. If you do not find one, then fasting two consecutive months. If you are unable to do that, then feeding sixty poor people, for each poor person half a sa' of the food of the land, such as dates, rice, or other, before you touch her.
As for your oath that she will not be a wife to you, upon you for it is the expiation for an oath, which is: feeding ten poor people, for each poor person half a sa' of the food of the land. And if you breakfast with them or dinner with them or clothe them, that suffices.
And I ask Allah to protect us and you and the rest of the Muslims from the stings of Satan, and from the evil of the self, and from bad deeds; indeed He is Hearing, Near.
And peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
Abdul Aziz ibn Abdullah ibn Baz
