Does the slave not follow the wife, so that the master is obligated to pay her zakat al-fitr?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : ... Does the slave not follow the wife ... .

The Shaykh : Yes, it appears that it is obligatory for him, because the wife's maintenance is obligatory for the master, for the slave, so it is part of his expenses. It is also possible that it is not obligatory for him because he does not own her, unlike the slave.

The questioner : ... .

The Shaykh : She is free. But if she is owned, she is upon her master; there is no doubt in that.
It ended, al-Hajjaj says, he says the time has ended.

The questioner : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "Chapter on Zakat al-Fitr. A slave between partners has a sa' upon them. It is recommended for the fetus but not obligatory for the rebellious wife... And if the zakat al-fitr of another person became obligatory, and he paid it on his own behalf without permission, it suffices. It becomes obligatory at the setting of the sun on the night of Eid. So if someone becomes a Muslim after that, or owns a slave, or marries a wife, or a child is born to him, his zakat al-fitr is not obligatory. But before that, it is obligatory. It is permissible to pay it two days before Eid only, and on the day of Eid before the prayer is better. It is disliked in the rest of the day, and he makes it up after his day, having sinned."
