The Shaykh : In this hadith, there are benefits and lessons: the virtue of dutifulness to parents, and that it is among the righteous deeds by which distresses are relieved and darknesses are removed.
And in it is: the virtue of chastity from unlawful sexual intercourse, and that if a person is chaste from unlawful sexual intercourse while having the ability to commit it, then that is among the best of deeds. It is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that this is among the seven whom Allah will shade with His shade on the Day when there is no shade except His:Sahih Muslim 1031a. So this man was enabled by this woman, whom he loved, to have access to herself, but he stood up in fear of Allah the Mighty and Majestic. In this, he attained perfect chastity, so it is hoped that he will be among those whom Allah will shade with His shade on the Day when there is no shade except His.
And in this hadith is also evidence of the virtue of trustworthiness and improving one’s work for others. Indeed, this man had the ability, when the worker came to him, to give him his wage and keep this money for himself, meaning to keep the livestock, the camels, the cattle, the sheep, and the slaves for himself, and say, “Your wage is this,” and give him something else. But because of his trustworthiness, his reliability, his sincerity to his brother, and his advice to him, he gave him everything that his wage had produced.
Among the benefits of this hadith is: the clarification of the power of Allah the Mighty and Majestic, for He, the Exalted, removed the rock from them by His command. No crane came to remove it, and no men came to move it; rather, it was the command of Allah the Mighty and Majestic. Allah commanded that this rock descend and close over them, then He commanded it to open up for them. And Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, is capable of all things.
And in it is a lesson: that Allah the Exalted is the Hearer of supplication, for He heard the supplication of these men and responded to them.
And in it is also a lesson: that sincerity is among the causes of relieving distresses, because each of them said, “O Allah, if I did that for Your sake, then relieve us from what we are in.” As for showing off, and may Allah protect us, and the one who does not do deeds except for showing off and seeking fame so that he is praised by people, then this is like foam that goes away, and its owner does not benefit from it. We ask Allah to grant us and you sincerity for Him. Sincerity is everything. Do not make your worship, do not give anyone a share in it. Make it all for Allah alone so that it may be accepted by Allah, for it is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in what he narrates from Allah the Exalted that He said:Sahih Muslim 2985, and success is from Allah.
