Explanation of the words of Imam al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding what he quoted: "

The Shaykh : Then Zirr ibn Hubaysh asked Safwan ibn 'Asal if he had heard the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) say anything regarding *hawa* (inclination), meaning love and preference. He said: Then he mentioned the story of the Bedouin man who had a loud voice and came calling out: in a loud voice. It was said to him: "Alas, you are calling the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) in a loud voice, and Allah the Mighty and Majestic says: [Al-Hujurat 49:2], but the Bedouins do not often know the etiquettes, because they are far from the cities and far from knowledge. So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) answered them in a loud voice, just as the Bedouin man had asked, because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) was the most perfect of people in guidance, giving each person according to what his mind can bear, so he addressed him in the same manner in which the Bedouin had addressed the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). The Bedouin man said to him: Sunan ad-Daraqutni 1:422 meaning: He loves the people, but his deeds are less than their deeds; he does not equal them in deeds. So with whom will he be? Will he be with them or not? So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: . Praise be to Allah, this is a great blessing. And Anas ibn Malik narrated this part of the hadith that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih al-Bukhari 3688. And likewise, we testify before Allah the Mighty and Majestic to our love for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), his Rightly Guided Caliphs, his Companions, and the Imams of Guidance after them, and we ask Allah to make us be with them. This is good news, good news for a person that if he loves a people, he will be with them, even if his deeds are short, he will be with them in Paradise, and Allah will gather him with them on the Day of Resurrection, and they will all drink from the Pool of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). And just as one who loves the disbelievers may perhaps be with them, may Allah protect us from that, because loving the disbelievers is forbidden, and it may even be one of the major sins. So it is obligatory for the Muslim to hate the disbelievers and to know that they are his enemies, no matter how much friendship, affection, and love they show, for they will not approach you except for their own benefit and your harm. As for their approaching you for your benefit, that is a far-fetched thing; if it were possible to combine fire and water, it would be possible to combine the disbelievers' love for us and their enmity toward us, because Allah the Exalted named them enemies: [Al-Mumtahanah 60:1], and He the Mighty and Majestic said: [Al-Baqarah 2:98] Every disbeliever has Allah as his enemy, and every disbeliever is an enemy to us, and every disbeliever harbors nothing but evil toward us. For this reason, you must hate in your heart every disbeliever, no matter what his race is, and no matter how close he is to you. Know that he is your enemy: [Al-Mumtahanah 60:1] So we take from this a principle whose foundation was established by the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2387Sahih (Darussalam), Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2387Sahih (Darussalam) So you, my brother, must strengthen your heart in the love of Allah and His Messenger, his Rightly Guided Caliphs, his noble Companions, and the Imams of Guidance after them, so that you may be with them. We ask Allah to make this a reality for us by His grace and generosity.
