The reader:
"And from Zur ibn Hubaysh, who said: I came to Safwan ibn 'Asal (may Allah be pleased with him) to ask him about wiping over the leather socks, and he said: What brought you, O Zur? I said: The seeking of knowledge. He said: The angels spread their wings
"The Shaykh : Their wings, in the accusative case.
The reader:
" The angels spread their wings for the student of knowledge, pleased with what he seeks. I said: Indeed, wiping over the leather socks after defecation and urination has been troubling me, and I was a man among the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so I came to ask you: Did you hear him mention anything about that
".
The Shaykh : And you were, and you were a man.
The reader:
"And I was a man among the Companions of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so I came to ask you: Did you hear him mention anything about that? He said: Yes, he used to order us, when we were traveling, not to remove our leather socks for three days and their nights, except from major ritual impurity, but from defecation, urination, and sleep. I said: Did you hear him mention anything about the direction? He said: Yes, we were with the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) on a journey, and while we were with him, a Bedouin man called out to him in a loud voice: O Muhammad! The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) answered him in a voice similar to his: Here I am! I said to him: Woe to you! Lower your voice, for you are with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), and you have been forbidden from this! He said: By Allah, I will not lower it. The Bedouin man said: A man loves a people before he joins them? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: A man is with whom he loves on the Day of Resurrection. He kept telling us stories until he mentioned a gate in the west, the width of which a traveler would take forty or seventy years to cross—Sufyan, one of the narrators, said: toward the Levant—which Allah the Exalted created on the day He created the heavens and the earth, open for repentance, and it will not be closed until the sun rises from it
, Al-Tirmidhi and others narrated it, and he said: It is a good, authentic hadith"
