Explanation of the words of Imam al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding what he quoted: "

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
These hadiths relate to the chapter the author established regarding the fact that it is necessary to honor scholars, revere them, and respect them, and to keep the company of the people of goodness and righteousness, visit them, and invite them to visit, and the like of that.
So in the first hadith from Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him):
That an Arab man said: "O Messenger of Allah, when is the Hour?" So the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him: "What have you prepared for it?" He said: "The love of Allah and His Messenger."

So in this hadith is evidence that the matter is not entirely about a person asking when he will die, or in which land he will die, but in what state he will die: will he die with a good ending, or with a bad ending?
And for this reason he said:
What have you prepared for it?
meaning: Do not ask about it, for it will come,
They ask you, [O Muhammad], about the Hour: when is its arrival?
[Al-A'raf 7:187]
,
People ask you concerning the Hour. Say," Knowledge of it is only with Allah. And what may make you perceive? Perhaps the Hour is near."
[Al-Ahzab 33:63]
,
And what will make you perceive? Perhaps the Hour is near.
[Ash-Shuraa 42:17]
.
But the matter is: what have you prepared for it? Have you done deeds? Have you turned to your Lord? Have you repented from your sin? This is what is important.
And likewise the hadith of Ibn Mas'ud, and what the author mentioned after it regarding the virtue of loving Allah and His Messenger, and that if a person loves a people, he is of them. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said:
A man shall be with whomever he loves.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2387Sahih (Darussalam)
.
Anas said: "So we did not rejoice after Islam with anything as we rejoiced with this hadith. So I love Allah and His Messenger. I love the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and I love Abu Bakr and 'Umar". So a man is with those he loves, because if he loves a people, he becomes accustomed to them, draws near to them, adopts their character traits, and follows their actions, as is the nature of human beings.
