The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said, regarding what he quoted from Abu Zayd, Usamah ibn Zayd ibn Harithah (may Allah be pleased with them), that Usamah ibn Zayd was the son of Zayd ibn Harithah, and Zayd ibn Harithah was a freed slave of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). He was a slave, and Khadijah (may Allah be pleased with her) gifted him to the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), so he freed him, and he became his freed slave. He was nicknamed "the beloved of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him)," where "habib" means beloved, and his son was also a "habib." So Usamah is the "habib" and the son of the "habib" (may Allah be pleased with them both). He mentioned meaning: death approached him, and she was asking the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to be present. So the messenger conveyed this to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih al-Bukhari 7377 : The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered the man sent by his daughter to order his daughter, meaning the mother of this child, the mother of this boy, to say these words. He said: meaning: she should restrain herself from dissatisfaction and bear the calamity. meaning: she should seek reward from Allah through her patience, because some people are patient but do not seek reward. They are patient with the calamity and do not complain, but they do not hope for its reward from Allah, so they miss out on much good by that. But if one is patient and seeks reward, meaning: intends by his patience that Allah will reward him and give him reward, then that is seeking reward (ihtisab).
meaning: regarding this calamity, and let her seek her reward from Allah (Mighty and Majestic). Sahih al-Bukhari 6602 : This phrase is great. If everything belongs to Allah, then if He takes something from you, it is His property, and if He gives you something, it is His property. So how can you be dissatisfied when He takes what He owns? When Allah takes something you love, you should say: This is for Allah. He has the right to take what He wills and give what He wills. For this reason, it is prescribed for a person when struck by a calamity to say: "Indeed, to Allah belongs and to Him we return," meaning we are the property of Allah and He does with us what He wills. Likewise, what we love, if He takes it from before us, it is His (Mighty and Majestic). To Him belongs what He takes and to Him belongs what He gives. Even what He gives you, you do not own it; it is for Allah. For this reason, you cannot dispose of it, meaning: what Allah has given you, except in the manner He has permitted. And this is evidence that our ownership of what Allah gives us is limited; we do not dispose of it absolutely. If a person wanted to dispose of his wealth absolutely in a manner not permitted by the Shari'ah, we would say to him: Stop, it is not possible, because wealth is the wealth of Allah, as He the Exalted said: [An-Nur 24:33] Wealth is the wealth of Allah; you do not dispose of it except in the manner He has permitted. For this reason, he said: Sahih al-Bukhari 6602 How can we be dissatisfied?! That the Owner takes what He owns (Glorified and Exalted is He) is contrary to reason and contrary to what has been transmitted.
He said:Sahih al-Bukhari 7377 Everything with Allah is by a measure, as He the Exalted said in the Noble Qur'an: [Ar-Ra'd 13:8] By a measure in its time, place, essence, and attributes, and everything connected to it is measured with Allah. Everything with Him is by a measured term, by a specified term, meaning: a determined term. So if you are certain of this: that to Allah belongs what He takes, to Him belongs what He gives, and everything with Him is by a specified term, you will be content. And this last phrase means that a person cannot change the written, delayed decree, neither by advancing it nor delaying it. [Yunus 10:49] : So if the thing is delayed, it does not advance or delay, then there is no benefit in distress and dissatisfaction, because even if you are distressed or dissatisfied, you will not change anything of the decreed.
