The Story of Mary, the Daughter of 'Imran

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Mary, the daughter of 'Imran (may Allah be pleased with her), left her family and went to a remote place while she was pregnant with her son, 'Isa, whom Allah the Exalted created with the word "Be," and he was. Labor pains overtook her at the trunk of a palm tree, meaning she was in labor, so she gave birth under the trunk of the palm tree. Allah placed a flowing stream beneath her. It was said to her:
And shake toward you the trunk of the palm tree; it will drop upon you ripe, fresh dates.
[Maryam 19:25]
. It is fresh dates falling from the branch of the palm tree, harvested, unaffected by falling to the ground. This is among the signs of Allah, because it is known that if a date falls, even from a person who is merely standing, it would be crushed. But these dates were not crushed, even though they fell from the branch of the palm tree. Then, this woman was a weak woman who had just given birth, yet she shook the palm tree from its trunk, and the palm tree shook. This is also among the signs of Allah, because it is customary that a palm tree does not shake from its trunk; it only shakes if someone shakes it from its branch, someone active. It was said to her:
So eat and drink and be contented.
[Maryam 19:26]
. Then she came to her people carrying this child, and they cried out to her:
O Mary, you have certainly done a thing unprecedented.
[Maryam 19:27]
, meaning something great, because they were certain that she had committed fornication, may Allah protect us from that. How could she have a son without a husband?
O sister of Aaron, your father was not a man of evil, nor was your mother unchaste." يَا أُخْتَ هَارُونَ مَا كَانَ أَبُوكِ امْرَأَ سَوْءٍ وَمَا كَانَتْ أُمُّكِ بَغِيّاً
[Maryam 19:28]
means: Your father was not a man of evil, and your mother was not a fornicatress: not a woman who commits fornication. So where did this come from? This was an insinuation of accusation against her. She pointed to him, meaning she said: Ask him. They said:
How can we speak to one who is in the cradle a child?" كَيْفَ نُكَلِّمُ مَنْ كَانَ فِي الْمَهْدِ صَبِيّاً
[Maryam 19:29]
. They thought she was mocking them. So Allah made this boy speak:
[Jesus] said, "Indeed, I am the servant of Allah قَالَ إِنِّي عَبْدُ اللَّهِ
[Maryam 19:30]
. It was eloquent speech.
(30) [Jesus] said, "Indeed, I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet. (31) And He has made me blessed wherever I am and has enjoined upon me prayer and zakah as long as I remain alive (32) And [made me] dutiful to my mother, and He has not made me a wretched tyrant. (33) And peace is on me the day I was born and the day I will die and the day I am raised alive."
[Maryam 19:30-33]
. Ten sentences. Ten sentences this boy in the cradle spoke with the most eloquent of eloquence. So look at the power of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, where He makes these children speak with the most eloquent of speech, with speech that comes from one of intellect. All of this is a sign or proof of the perfection of the power of Allah. And in it is also: the rescue of Mary (may Allah be pleased with her) from the accusation that might befall her because of this pregnancy without a husband. Similarly, this child with the woman who hesitated to enter the fire, Allah the Exalted honored her by making this child speak so that she would enter the fire and remain upon her faith. And in these stories and their like is proof that Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, by His mercy, saves every believer in his desolate place, every pious person in his desolate place. "In his desolate place" means in a place where his destruction would occur, but Allah the Exalted saves him because of the piety that preceded for him. And the witness to this is His saying, peace and blessings be upon him:
Know Allah in times of ease, He will know you in times of hardship.
. And success is from Allah.
