Exegesis of the saying of Allah the Exalted: "And Mary, the daughter of 'Imran, who guarded her chastity, so We breathed into her from Our Spirit, and she believed in the words of her Lord and His books, and she was of the devout."

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The second woman is Mary, the daughter of 'Imran, who guarded her chastity. She is one of the truthful women, as Allah the Exalted said:
And her mother was a truthful woman
. He only said:
the one who guarded her chastity
[Al-Anbya 21:91]
in response to the statement of the Jews, upon them be the curse of Allah until the Day of Judgment, who said that Mary was a fornicatress, may Allah protect us from that. Therefore, when she came carrying her son 'Isa (peace be upon him), they said to her:
O sister of Aaron, your father was not a man of evil, nor was your mother unchaste." يا أخت هارون ما كان أبوك امرأ سوء وما كانت أمك بغيا
[Maryam 19:28]
. They were implying that she had been a fornicatress and an adulteress. For this reason, 'Isa was considered by the Jews to be the son of an adulteress, may Allah protect us from that. Here, Allah the Exalted said:
the one who guarded her chastity
[Al-Anbya 21:91]
. He described her with perfect chastity and that she was innocent of what the enemies of Allah and the enemies of His messengers, who are the Jews, had accused her of.
So We breathed into her from Our Spirit
means that in her private parts, Gabriel breathed into her, and she conceived by the permission of Allah with her son 'Isa. She gave birth to him and nursed him. She brought him to her people, carrying him as a child is carried. When they said to her:
your father was not a man of evil, nor was your mother unchaste." ما كان أبوك امرأ سوء وما كانت أمك بغيا
[Maryam 19:28]
. She pointed to him, meaning, speak to him.
(29) So she pointed to him. They said, "How can we speak to one who is in the cradle a child?" (30) [Jesus] said, "Indeed, I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet. قالوا كيف نكلم من كان في المهد صبيا قال إني عبد الله
[Maryam 19:29-30]
. So he spoke with this eloquent and wondrous speech:
(30) [Jesus] said, "Indeed, I am the servant of Allah. He has given me the Scripture and made me a prophet. (31) And He has made me blessed wherever I am and has enjoined upon me prayer and zakah as long as I remain alive (32) And [made me] dutiful to my mother, and He has not made me a wretched tyrant. (33) And peace is on me the day I was born and the day I will die and the day I am raised alive."
[Maryam 19:30-33]
. So they knew that the matter is in the hand of Allah (Mighty and Majestic). And that 'Isa is a sign among the signs of Allah; Allah the Exalted created him without a father, and he spoke in the cradle, having been made to speak by the One who made everything speak. Allah the Exalted said:
and she believed in the words of her Lord and His scriptures and was of the devoutly obedient.
[At-Tahrim 66:12]
.
