The reader: He said -may Allah have mercy on him-:
"And from Abu 'Abd al-Rahman 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: It is as if I am looking at the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) describing a prophet from among the prophets (may the prayers and peace of Allah be upon them) whom his people struck and bled, while he was wiping the blood from his face, and he was saying: O Allah, forgive my people, for they do not know.
كأني أنظر إلى رسولِ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم يحكي نبياً مِن الأنبياء صلوات الله وسلامه عليهم ، ضربه قومه فأدموه ، وهو يمسح الدم عن وجهه ، وهو يقول : اللهم اغفر لقومي فإنهم لا يعلمون
, agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim".
