The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said, in what he quoted from Abu 'Abd al-Rahman 'Abdullah ibn Mas'ud (may Allah be pleased with him), he said:

It is as if I am looking at the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) describing a prophet from among the prophets, whom his people struck until they bled him, and he was wiping the blood from his face while saying: O Allah, forgive my people, for they do not know.

كأني أنظر إلى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وهو يحكي نبياً من الأنبياء ، ضربه قومه فأدموه ، فجعل يمسح الدم عن وجهه وهو يقول : اللهم اغفر لقومي فإنهم لا يعلمون
