Explanation of the words of Imam al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) regarding what he quoted: "

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "The chapter on hastening to good deeds and encouraging one who turns to a good deed to complete it without hesitation" This title encompasses two things:
The first is hastening and rushing to good.
The second is that when a person resolves to do something that is good, he should proceed with it and not hesitate. As for the first, which is hastening, its opposite is delay and laziness. How many people have delayed and been lazy, only to miss out on much good! For this reason, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
A strong believer is better and is more lovable to Allah than a weak believer, and there is good in everyone, (but) cherish that which gives you benefit (in the Hereafter) and seek help from Allah and do not lose heart
Sahih Muslim 2664
A person should hasten in good deeds; whenever something good is mentioned to him, he should rush to it. Among these are prayer, charity, fasting, Hajj, dutifulness to parents, maintaining family ties, and other matters of good. He should hasten to them, for a person does not know what may happen; perhaps he will delay in something and then be unable to do it afterwards, whether due to death, illness, the passing of the time, or something else. It was reported in a hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
If one of you intends to perform Hajj, let him hasten, for a person does not know what may occur to him.
Something may occur that prevents him from doing it, so hasten to good and do not delay. Then the author mentioned the words of Allah, Blessed and Exalted is He:
And race toward the good deeds.
Among this is racing to the front rows in prayer, for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
the best of the men’s row is the first and the worst of them is the last
Sunan Abi Dawud 678Sahih (Al-Albani)
And regarding women, he said:
the best of the women’s rows is the last and the worst of them is the first
Sunan Abi Dawud 678Sahih (Al-Albani)
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) saw some people in the back of the mosque who had not raced forward or moved ahead, so he said:
If people continue to lag behind, Allah, the Mighty and Sublime, will put them back.
Sunan an-Nasa'i 795Sahih (Darussalam)
So you should seize the opportunity and race to good. And He said:
(133) And hasten to forgiveness from your Lord and a garden as wide as the heavens and earth, prepared for the righteous (134) Who spend [in the cause of Allah] during ease and hardship
[Ali 'Imran 3:133-134]
to the end of it. He said, "Hasten to forgiveness and Paradise." As for hastening to forgiveness, it is for a person to hasten to what brings forgiveness of sins, such as seeking forgiveness from Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, saying "O Allah, forgive me" or "O Allah, I seek Your forgiveness," and the like. Also, to what brings forgiveness, such as wudu, the five daily prayers, Friday to Friday, and Ramadan to Ramadan. If a person performs wudu thoroughly and then says:
I bear witness that there is no god but Allah, and I bear witness that Muhammad is His slave and His Messenger. O Allah, make me among those who repent, and make me among those who purify themselves.
Musannaf Ibn Abi Shaybah 1:25
The eight gates of Paradise will be opened for him, and he will enter from whichever he wishes. Also, when he performs wudu, his sins will come out from the limbs he washed with the last drop of water. This is among the causes of forgiveness.
Among the causes of forgiveness are also the five daily prayers, which are an expiation for what is between them, provided major sins are avoided. Friday to Friday is an expiation for what is between them, provided major sins are avoided. Ramadan to Ramadan is an expiation for what is between them, provided major sins are avoided. So a person should hasten to the causes of forgiveness.
The second is: He said:
a garden as wide as the heavens and earth
[Ali 'Imran 3:133]
This is achieved by doing the commanded acts. You hasten to Paradise by working for it, and there is no work for Paradise except righteous deeds. This is what leads to entering Paradise, so hasten to it. Then Allah described this Paradise, stating that its width is the heavens and the earth. This indicates its vastness and greatness, and that only Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, can measure it. So hasten to it by doing the righteous deeds that lead to it. May Allah grant success.
The reader: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.
He (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "The chapter on hastening to good deeds and encouraging one who turns to a good deed to proceed with it earnestly, without hesitation. Allah the Exalted said:
And race toward the good deeds.
And He said:
And hasten to forgiveness from your Lord and a garden as wide as the heavens and earth, prepared for the righteous
[Ali 'Imran 3:133]
